MCBA Extractor Rental Program

Investing in extracting equipment can be a big expense. MCBA has made, as a member benefit, extractor equipment rental packages

that enables our members in good standing to extract honey with ease at a fraction of the cost.

PLEASE RESPECT THE EQUIPMENT THE MCBA HAS INVESTED IN AND YOU AS A MEMBER ARE BENEFITING FROM.

Note:

Radial orientation is like spokes on a wheel. Honey will come out of both sides of the frame at the same time when the extractor is running.

Tangential orientation is parallel with the wall of the extractor. Honey only comes out one side of frame (outside position) at a time. When running tangential, spin at slow speed to get some of the honey out of one side of the frame, turn frame over and get all honey out of the second side. Flip frame again to remove the rest of first side.

Food grade plastic buckets with honey gate preferred (each bucket can hold 60 pounds of honey)

5 gallon paint strainer bag can be used instead of sieves.

Terms and Conditions:

The Honey Extraction Equipment listed above is the property of Montgomery County Beekeepers Association (MCBA).
This equipment is available for use by members of MCBA only.
Rental cost is $20 (cash or check) for two days in summer season, 4 days the remainder of the year, payable when equipment is picked up.
A $30 Deposit is required when the equipment is picked up
Total cost at pick up is $50 cash or check
Deposit is refunded on return of equipment that is clean, dry, and in suitable condition as determined by the person making the equipment available
Prospective users are responsible to pick up and return the equipment.
In the event of loss or irreparable damage, users are responsible for the replacement value.

Tips for Cleaning Extraction Equipment:

Note: The bees are not responsible for cleaning equipment. Do not leave out for bees to rob!!

Allow one or two hours to clean up equipment.
All components must be returned assembled, clean, dry, and not sticky. Some propolis and wax is inevitable but get as much as you can off. Just imagine how you would want to receive it….
Avoid disassembling the extractor for cleaning. There is a ball bearing on the bottom that can easily be lost.
Use warm water to clean the components and not HOT (it will soften the wax and propolis and smear it around). Cold water on a hose that is set at jet spray also works.
Avoid all cleaning liquids or powders. They will leave a tell-tale residue and scent.
Cleaning requires lots of water and lots of time to air dry.
Spray the equipment that touches the honey with the provided Star-San sanitizing solution. Just let it dry. It does not need to be wiped off or rinsed.
Inspect honey gates, inside and outside parts, carefully for any trace of honey.
Close the honey gates before packing up. The loose gate valves may catch on something and break.

Our mission is to provide education, hands-on training, support and fellowship in all aspects of beekeeping.
