No Native Honeybees to the whole US Continent (5)
Created on: 3 Feb 2022
Too much misinformation out there about beekeeping. It's agriculture with non-native livestock, not conservation. Our environment has no need for honeybees here. They did not evolve here for thousands of years with the native plants like all the native pollinators did. Save the bees? (does not apply to honeybees, more honeybee livestock than ever on Earth). What if all honeybees die off? Worse: What if ONLY honeybees survive? They don't pollinate as many plants as we'd like to think. Beekeeping does not help the environment/ecosystem and beekeeping can have negative impacts on native pollinators: outcompeting for forage (more foragers, hoarding, fly further for forage), transmitting diseases/viruses to native bees, & possibly propagating non-native and non-native invasive plants more than native plants which is 100% bad for local ecosystems. We must also teach the negative impacts of beekeeping.
