Annual Picnic

Registration

  • If you are a paid member of the MCBA Beginners' Class for 2022, your 2 summer picnic tickets are included in your class registration. However, we still need you to register!
    Guests & children over 5 years of age will be extra.

    You are attending the event at your own risk BYOB alcohol consumption is strictly limited to those of legal drinking age and event hosts are not liable for any injury, illness or overconsumption. Ticket purchase is agreement to these terms.

Annual picnic at The Carousel in Pottstown

Come join us at the Carousel for unlimited rides, food and swap some beekeeing stories! Bring your smoker and enter the Smoker Contest to see who can keep theirs lit the longest! (rules below)

Menu to include:

Burgers, hot dogs, BBQ Chicken and sides provided by Moyers Catering

Beverages are BYOB for non-alcoholic as well as adult beverages 

You are welcome to bring a dessert

Price = $10 per person - 5yrs old and under are free


SMOKER CONTEST 2023

  • Smoker Contest will begin promptly at 12:30 PM and end at 3:00 PM
  • NO modified smokers.    “Traditional” smokers only.   (Electric or any smoker with any modification to the air delivery system will not be accepted.) 
  • Natural fuel only.  Any “manufactured” or “synthetic” fuel is not permitted. Wood pellets are acceptable as well as compressed paper products such as egg cartons.    REMEMBER…..if you wouldn’t use it to work your hives, it’s not natural!
  • Entrants will start with an empty smoker.
RULES
  • At approximately 12:15,  judges will have all entrants pack their smokers.
  • After packing you will have 3 minutes to light your smoker.
  • After 3 minutes, judges  will call time and all entrants will walk away.
  • Every 15 minutes for the first hour, the judges will pump the bellows three times.
  • Any smoker not producing smoke will be turned on its side after the first hour.
  • Every 30 minutes for the second hour, the judges will pump the bellows 3 times for the remaining smokers.
  • Any smoker not producing smoke will be turned on its side after the second hour.
  • After the final 30 minutes, the judges will pump the bellows 2 times for the remaining smokers.
  • The last smoker producing smoke will be the winner.
  • In the event that there are no smokers producing smoke prior to the end of the contest, the last smoker producing smoke will be the winner.
  • In the event there are multiple smokers producing smoke at the end of 2 hours and 30 minutes,  names will be entered into a  drawing to determine the winner.

Caution:  Smokers should be cooled completely before taking home

About MCBAPA
Serving Montgomery, Bucks and surrounding counties in Pennsylvania, the MCBAPA is an association of hobbyist and professional beekeepers. Our mission is to provide education, hands-on training, support and fellowship in all aspects of beekeeping. Both experienced beekeepers and novices participate in our monthly meetings, field trips and social events.This is a good spot to place your secondary navigation gadget, like Navigation links, or Secondary menu.

Skippack, PA 19426

General membership meetings are usually held the 4th Thursday of the month at 7 pm, but please check our calendar.
