Main Topic:

European Foulbrood: An Emerging Threat to US Honey Bee Colonies?

Short description: European foulbrood (EFB) has recently become
widespread in US apiaries. Despite more than a century of research, many
questions about this disease remain unanswered. Dr. Fowler will discuss
what we do and don't know about EFB, including ongoing research at
Michigan State University aimed at helping beekeepers bring this disease
under control.

Bio: Dr. Peter Fowler received his DVM (2020) and PhD (2025) from
Michigan State University, where his doctoral research focused on honey
bee bacterial disease ecology and diagnostics. He is currently a
postdoctoral scholar in Dr. Meghan Milbrath's lab at MSU, studying
European foulbrood, which has become endemic in Michigan apiaries.
